Clinical Hypnotherapy for Women

A holistic, evidence-informed approach to women’s health and emotional wellbeing.

Meet Prue Walmsley

I’m Prue Walmsley, a Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Brisbane. I hold a Bachelor of Psychological Science from the University of Queensland, a Diploma in Clinical Hypno-Psychotherapy, and I am a member of the Australian Hypnotherapists Association.

My work is devoted to the places where women’s emotional and physical health intersect - trauma, relationships, body image, intimacy, reproductive health, chronic pain and nervous system regulation.

I bring together Clinical Hypnotherapy, psychological understanding, and mind-body awareness with a deep respect for the individuality of every woman that I work with.

Kind Words From Clients

  • "Working with Prue was such a calming and supportive experience. She really helped me reconnect with my body and regulate my nervous system in a way I hadn’t been able to before. I came to her for help with my bladder pain, and I noticed a big improvement after our sessions. What surprised me most was how safe and at ease I felt - her approach is gentle, intuitive, and grounding. I was also surprised that connecting to my body was exactly what my bladder needed to ease the pain. Thank you for such a beautiful experience."

    — J

  • "I highly recommend Prue as a hypnotherapist. She was very professional, but without making our sessions feel clinical and stale. She had a warm and calming manner, which made me feel comfortable immediately. I really appreciated how personalised her approach felt, didn't feel like she was just following a script or ticking check boxes. She is clearly very knowledgeable about her work and techniques and was able to adapt to how I was feeling in each session and changes in my situation over time. My sessions with Prue have been very beneficial and I'm really grateful - thanks, Prue!"

1

What does a Clinical Hypnotherapist do?

2

A clinical hypnotherapist uses guided hypnosis to support therapeutic work on thoughts, feelings and behaviours. My sessions begin with a conversation about what brings you here. From there, we may use imagery, metaphor and suggestion to explore your experience and the changes you hope to make. The approach is personalised, and you can ask questions or pause throughout.

Do you specialise in Hypnotherapy for women?

3

A clinical hypnotherapist uses guided hypnosis to support therapeutic work on thoughts, feelings and behaviours. My sessions begin with a conversation about what brings you here. Can hypnotherapy help with women’s health concerns?

4

My work supports women with the emotional experiences that can accompany health concerns, such as distress around persistent pain, body image or fertility treatment. Hypnotherapy may be considered as complementary support, but evidence varies by condition. This is not treatment for an underlying medical condition. Medical symptoms need assessment and care from an appropriate healthcare professional.

Will I lose control during Hypnosis?

5

No. Hypnosis does not remove your ability to make choices or control your behaviour. People usually remain aware and remember what happens, although experiences vary. You can speak, decline a suggestion or ask to pause. If the idea of hypnosis feels unsettling, we can talk through what it involves before you decide whether to proceed.

What does Hypnosis feel like?

Hypnosis can feel like becoming absorbed in something, with your attention more focused. Some people feel deeply relaxed; others remain aware of their thoughts and the room around them. You do not need to switch your mind off or produce a particular sensation. If you find yourself wondering whether you are “doing it right”, you can say so.

6

How many Hypnotherapy sessions will I need?

7

There is no set number of sessions that suits everyone. We begin by discussing what you want help with, then consider your response to the work and whether further sessions would be useful. Before committing to ongoing appointments, we can discuss the recommendation, cost and what progress would look like for you. A dramatic breakthrough is not something you need to produce.

Where do you offer Clinical Hypnotherapy in Brisbane?

8

I offer in-person appointments at the Bardon Counselling & Natural Therapies Centre in Bardon, Brisbane. Online hypnotherapy appointments are also available Australia- wide via Zoom. You can view appointment details and availability. If you are considering an online session, choose a private, comfortable space where you can speak freely without interruptions.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can contact me directly without a referral. If you would like to understand the approach before booking, start with a complimentary discovery call. Please mention relevant health conditions, medication and any treatment you already receive so suitability can be considered. Hypnotherapy does not replace medical, psychological or psychiatric care where that support is needed.

Would you like to talk before booking?

You may have a specific question, or simply want to get a sense of whether working together feels right. A complimentary 15-minute discovery call gives you space to ask about the approach and discuss your next step. Email Prue to arrange your discovery call. You can keep your message simple: “Hi Prue, I’m considering hypnotherapy and would like to arrange a discovery call.”

10

You don’t need another person telling you what is wrong with you. You need a space to be heard, understood and supported so you can create real, lasting change.
